could be a number of things! sometimes it’s due to your browser cache (the thing that stores browser data so webpages load faster), you can hit Ctrl+F5 on windows to force a page to refresh (Cmd+Shift+R on mac, supposedly) and that usually works for me, or you can try clearing your browser cache (this I haven’t tried often so you’ll have to research that)… you can also try opening the site on an incognito page or on another device. if not that, sometimes it’s on neocities’ end and they’re slow to update, in that case you just gotta wait around :’) OH! one last thing! you can actually use notepad (on windows, i'm not sure what the mac equivalent is) to create and store HTML, CSS, and JS files directly on your PC, they will not be publicly available but are extremely handy for testing and planning things (especially if you want to test something but don't want it public yet)! if you don't wanna start from nothing you can download your entire site by scrolling to the bottom of the dashboard and hitting "download entire site", then working from there :0)

"my only advice is to just... start! it sounds scary especially if you feel like people are watching you but you'll get very very little activity in the start (most likely) and even if people WERE watching you, they wouldn't think ill of you, at worst they'd just scroll past. i started my website with absolutely zero concepts for what i was gonna make, just started playing with HTML and CSS with no former knowledge of how it works (besides editing a few wikis as a younger teen) and drew some art of my character to put on it, and instead of buckling down and studying everything all at once i learned very very slowly as things came up. i still don't really know if i'm doing anything right, but i AM having fun, and i think that's ultimately what matters the most when you're making a website. it is, above all else, for you, and what you do with it is up to you!"
